In line with the Corporate Design of Daimler Truck, the visual appearance of Daimler Truck Financial Services is based on the overarching layout principle and a uniform baseline grid with a left-aligned text structure. For all the applications, the height of the design area is determined by dividing the format into predefined horizontal units. The rules of the UI/UX design manual apply to digital applications.
Principle of Clear Design
For advertisements, posters and stage backdrops, the layout principle divides the format height into six units, with the top unit (1/6) reserved for the Daimler Truck Financial Services logotype as the horizontal axis and colored in white. The units below represent the design area in which texts and illustrations are placed in all media. Texts on photos or color backgrounds are placed such that a predefined internal spacing is maintained on all sides of the design area. This serves as an optical text frame. The height of the letter “T” is used to measure the inner distances.
Horizontal Orientation Line
The design of inside pages follows the same layout principle. Here, the format height can be subdivided into six (1/6) or three (1/3) units, creating a horizontal axis of variable height that divides the design area into upper and lower sections. The height of the horizontal axis is 1/2, 1/3 or 1/6 of the format height from the top and is not a dividing line but an orientation line on the inside pages. The visual boundary between the upper and lower areas of the design space is taken up with typography, photos, color backgrounds and infographics, but can also be deliberately broken. For example, text and photographs can be placed on the entire design surface only in the upper or lower areas. This creates an exciting visual rhythm.
Design Grid for Columns and Type Area
Regardless of the format, each printed matter is based on a uniform column grid and a baseline grid. The column grid within the type area provides for different flexible widths with a spacing of 4 mm between each other and enables a diverse design in the sense of Swiss typography. Text blocks can be set to variable widths. The text stands with each line on the baseline grid. The horizontal lines run across the format at intervals of 2 mm. The text layout for brochure front covers, advertisements and posters is always left-aligned. The spacing of typography on inside pages is based on the height of the letter “T” in the Daimler Truck Financial Services corporate logotype.
