Daimler Truck Financial Services brochures and flyers intended for distribution as printed copies are primarily designed in portrait format, with formats ranging from DIN A4 to DIN A6. Flyers are produced in DIN lang (DL) format or as leaflets measuring 100 x 210 mm. Preset templates for the desktop publishing software Adobe InDesign are available for this case. These include a wide range of layout variants that enable a cost-efficient concept and a suitable layout of brochures and flyers.
Corresponding publications that are published exclusively in electronic form as documents in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format can also be created in landscape format for better display on the screen.
Layout of front cover and back pages
On the front covers, the white area with 1/6 format height forms the background for the Daimler Truck Financial Services corporate logotype; below this, the photo motif and text should be treated as a visual unit and set in relation to each other within the layout area. Headlines are always set in the corporate typeface Daimler CS with Regular weight, in the mixed case (upper/lower case) and without a trailing period.
The publisher’s details are usually the only content on the back page. For flyers with large amounts of information, the back page can also be filled with content in exceptional cases. If an optional QR code is used, it is aligned in line with the publisher details on the right.
Layout of Inside Pages
The leading white color can be found on the inside pages and can take up 1/6 or 2/6 of the upper format height. This creates an exciting design rhythm consistent with the overall layout principle.
The text on the inside pages of brochures or flyers is based on the baseline grid in 2 mm increments and a column grid within the type area. The grid with different column widths allows a wide range of design options in line with Swiss typography. Text blocks can be set with flexible widths. For large brochures, the inner columns should not be used for text because this runs too close to the gutter.
Photos, tables, diagrams, information graphics and text types in different font sizes break up the page layout and create an exciting visual framework. The extensive use of the leading color white underlines the visual effect of the photo motifs and the reduced color scheme gives brochures and flyers a modern look.
Text Design
All defined text types can be used on inside pages and are set in the mixed case (upper/lower case). The headings and body texts are left-aligned, whereby marginalia, quotations and captions can also be positioned right-aligned. Text types such as headings, captions, quotations, pagination, and column titles can also be placed on pictures. Sufficient contrast is required to ensure that the text is easy to read.
On surfaces in the colors white or Light Grey, typography is always in black; the color Petrol can also be used for markings or marginalia. Bilingual text is separated from each other by placing different parts visually; there is no additional differentiation between two languages based on font style or color.
Dealing with Pictures
Several photo motifs next to or below each other are lined up end-to-end to form a thematic unit and harmonize visually. A white space is left between the pictures if they complement the text in the column grid.
Paper Qualities and Print Production
The standard paper used for the print production of brochures and flyers is usually white, wood-free, double-sided matt-coated art paper, although uncoated paper can also be used. For up to eight pages, the same weight (170 gsm) can be selected for both front cover and inside pages. For more than eight pages, paper qualities of 250 gsm for the cover and 150 gsm for inside pages are recommended. For brochures with more than 24 pages, the cover remains at 250 gsm, while the paper weight for the content can be reduced to 135 gsm. Backstitch or eyelet stitching with double-stitched eyelets can be used for brochures of up to 48 pages, and Japanese, Swiss or English brochure bindings can be used as additional binding options.
